for Long Beach Area Council
1. Meet and Listen to People in the Council:
A. Meet with every board member
B. Meet with all staff members
[met with 4 of 6 to date]
C. Meet district volunteers by attending district meetings, events, and Roundtable
D. Meet with Budget Committee to thoroughly review the 2022 budget
E. Meet with key chartered partners
F. Meet with Investment Committee to review portfolio performance and direction for 2022
2. Meet and Listen to People in our Community:
A. Meet with major donors including longtime funders like Miller, Munzer, and Gumbiner Foundations
B. Visit key service clubs
C. Meet with key business, civic, community and church leaders
[new mayor, police chief, 5th district council person]
D. Meet with Superintendent and/or key leaders of both Long Beach and Bellflower Unified.
3. Review Council Financial Situation
A. Review 2022 budget: expense categories and revenue sources to fully understand nuances and history
B. Meet with key board members to discuss ways to increase revenue, and a new revenue model
[program fee, fee for service, year-round, special events]
C. Meet with Audit Committee to prepare for upcoming 2021 audit
D. Meet with personnel committee to review staffing levels
E. Meet with key consultants and agents
[insurance broker, attorney, auditors, accountant, HR legal, work comp]
4. Review Council Properties, Policies, and Procedures
A. Review status of AB 506 compliance
B. Review prospects for new office location
C. Review latest on BSA Bankruptcy, payment schedule, & noticing campaign
D. Continue discussion of shared services among Southern California councils
E. Visit each property with volunteers to discuss issues and goals
F. Reach conclusion on Sea Base beach access
G. Develop Strategic Plan with key council leadership
H. Develop year-round Council membership plan
I. Develop plan to recruit and retain adult leaders
J. Review board meeting minutes and bylaws
K. Review checkout report prepared by John Fullerton
